Can someone explain proper/good flow?

In my 58 I have a Tunze Stream 6000 - 1850 gal/h, 2 Maxijet 1200's and a Blueline HD40 (790GPH) as my return pump.

SHould this be enough for a 58 (36x18x21)?

The return blows from the top left rear across the back to the right.
The Stream blows form the right back about 10 inches down to the left front.
The Maxijet 1 blowns from the bottomr right to the right front.
The maxijet 2 blows from the top left straight down.

I see some water moving but I dont see allot of flow.

Unidirectional, laminar, low velocity, high volume.

those would be the four terms I would use to describe proper flow.

Thanks for that tip.

I read most of that thread and it does explain allot.

But reading it, I think I would need another stream and 4 more maxijets to achieve good flow in my 58.

What I think I really need to do to get my tank under control and on the right track is to hire someone to come to my house and look at my setup. Then we can discuss, flow, LR placement, setup, maintenance.

I think I am just spinning my wheels instead of moving.

Rob -

I run a 58 with a 6060 [1800 non-controllable], a Seio 820, and a MJ1200 [along with return pump].

That is a great article above - esp for something like this that's like trying to describe how to ride a bike in text .

I found my aquascape made a big effect on flow. After removing a couple pieces of rock I've found better success.

Personally, I have 6060 behind the rockwork, at the base of the overflow, blowing behind/below the rockwork. The Seio points upward, back right of the tank somewhat interacting with the Stream. The MJ is in the left corner, bottom of the overflow, moving stuff from that area into the water or around to the front of the tank.

When you feed, how long does the stuff stay floating?
Do big pieces tend to fall, or stay floating for a few minutes?

IMO, checking out what happens to stuff in suspension is a useful tool for checking out flow.

Also seeing where stuff falls/collects I've found important. If you have much collecting on rocks, generally you can expect algae to grow there. Small buildup is easy to take care of with turkeybasting, but if it's steady and regular I'd adjust things to avoid having spots of collection except in front, on the substrate/bottom.

Just my take with my 58g BB. Maybe not that helpful, hopefully you can get something out of it :)
