Cyano?

I have had a recent outbreak of red slime :x on my rock. The tank is about 2 years old and all parameters are in line, have not checked phosphates though.

Is this stuff cyano or algae?? How can I get rid of it? I know nutrients are a key, but I work to keep them at a minimal. I have not made any major changes with the way I feed the tank and in the past two years I have not had a problem.The skimmer is cleaned regularly, and I just took it apart and cleaned the venturi and lower chamber about two weeks ago.

I currently have a DSB and I am afraid that phosphates might have built up over time and are leeching into the water column. Any ideas??

Definietly check you phosphate level. It's cyano for sure. Adding a poweerhead or two for more flow will help, along with sucking it out with a turkey baster. If you haven't already, reduce your feedings too.

If your lights are old, try changing them. It often does the trick. Also, keeping alk and pH high can hinder cyano growth. Dripping kalkwasser might work for you.

What is a good way to drip Kalk? My halides and PC are new bulbs except for one of the two PC's.
