LFS practically GAVE me this huge LT. When fully opened he will be something around 16"...dinner plate size. He's in a 20-gallon until I get a larger tank cycled. I don't like having anemones in particular, but...there were a couple of factors involved. I do have a mated pair of clowns that immediately moved right in, plus, there was another customer there to buy the anemone but had just started in the hobby and had no clue...I didn't want to see the anemone go to their home. Their tank had not even finished cycling!!!
However, here is the problem. I thought I had the intakes of the powerheads blocked by LR, but missed one that was in the back corner of the anemone side of the tank. This morning, of course, he had about half an inch of tenacles caught in the intake since he decided to take a stroll in the night.
Question is....with an anemone of this size, and I do mean HUGE, can he recover. In comparison to his size, the amount of tenacles caught in the intake was very few and I have resolved this ever happening again. I had simply overlooked this particular intake. It now has a rock blocking it. This is why I don't like keeping anemones all that much....they are difficult to keep up with. I have plenty of light, current, great water, etc....but anemones are still better off on the reef. Still, I do try a rescue from time to time. The lfs is moving it's business and selling off the livestock VERY cheap. I was simply saving the anemone from the new hobbyist.
Think this guy will be ok?
