Protein Skimmer production Question

I recently had an incident with my auto top off mechinism, I turned it on manually, forgot about it and filled up my 100g sump. In doing so my salinity droped to 1.016 SG and in order to get it back up I have done frequent water changes. Since then my skimmer does not seem to be producing anything.

Could this be due to the frequent water changes my water quality is as near perfect / pure / clean that it can be?
