What would you do with a spare 55 gal tank?

Trying to decide what to do with a spare 55 gal tank? Do I do salt or fresh? FO or reef? Help me decide.

No. Gotta be reasonable here.

I put a few plants, some very large Angels and a few small dither fish in mine. It is slow moving and thus a relaxing tank.

CO2 generator? Lighting?

Hmmm.. Have to go against the grain here with Andy's suggestion, a 55 would be way to small for large Angels. But if you have access strong lighting, how about a tidal reef? sea grasses, sandbed, maybe even a surge(if you feel so inclined) Then a some small fish/inverts for a nice look. I tried this but failed when I had too much cyano in the tank and it covered all my sea grass & other macros

If I go reef or planted I need to buy lighting, a few power heads (and more LR for a reef). I do have a bunch of white silica sand, a 5 gallon bucket of crushed coral, a Bak-Pak skimmer available for use.

Species tank! Seahorses or jawfish. Or maybe one of those special ugly-on-a-stick fish that looks like a rock.

I hear tank raised are not that hard, but still need to be fed twice a day.

I have a spare 55 too. I think it will be a dust tank until I turn it into a sump for my 300 gallon tank.

I have some dust bunnies you can have Kev, if you pay shipping. They require little care. Actually they grow if neglected.

i hate 55's-they're the worst proportioned tank made, imo-i'd toss it in the garbage, or use it only as a sump-it's not even 'fugeworthy'

Setup a 180 reef and use the 55 for a sump - of course! :wink:
