I have a lot of red macro-alga growing in my refugium, and lately it has been turning a greenish color and not growing very fast. it is under a somewhat red-ish compact flourescent bulb, and there are several other types of macroalgae as well, including caulerpa. I have a lot of algae for the size of my tank. Is it not getting enough nutrients/being outcompeted by the other algae, or is it the light that is causing this?

It's my understanding that the red algae does best under bluish light and the green does best with light on the red end of the scale.

It's also possible that it's just getting too much light, I think reddish algae is more deep water than the green stuff.

Maybe the red alga was reflecting too much of the red light, so it turned green to adapt?
