I had a strange experience a couple weeks ago. I turned out the lights on my 16 gal tank and heard this weird noise that sounded like a wood pecker hammering a tree. I went over to the tank and heard it again. I looked down at the clowns and saw the larger one open it's mouth and "pop" its gills and jaw in and out 8O The sound happened at the same time.

I'm not KIDDING! I have a witness who can testify to this also.

The clowns were swimming around each other and the larger female was making this noise. I haven’t heard it sense.

Has anyone had this experience?

Yes, many species of fish are able to make different sounds by using different body parts usually to attract mates or scare off predators.

I once heard a Blueface angel made the most frighteningly loud "pop!" Gruntfishes, of course, get their name from the sounds they make :)
