cleaning powerhead

i have a rio 1400 that woke me up last night to a weird sound. sounds like something is either stuck in the propellor or needs to be cleaned? is that probably what that sound is? it sounded almost like a light tapping on the glass but that is probably because i have it suctioned cupped to the glass. anyone know how to clean these things?

Maybe the pump is out of or off balance, a good cleaning process wil be to use vineger to clean the pump with.

I'm not familiar with Rios, but you should be able to take it apart and pull the impeller, then give it a scrub inside the impeller housing. I pull my PH's every other month to clean. Lot's of gunk builds up in there.

Keep an eye on RIOs. They do not have a good rep on the BBs. Most complain that they break open and dump some goo, killing everything.

well i took the rio back to the LFS and they swaped it out for a new one. could it have been that i was keepign my magnafloat glass cleaner too close to it since they each have such big magnets?

I had a rio 2500 that I was mixing water with. I took a dump in my water bucket. It smelled like burnt rubber and there was black oily stuff on the walls and floating. Luckily it was not in my tank.
