right now i have 2 clowns and 4 damsels. surprisingly everyone is getting along. i am planning on trading the damsels in though.

what would be a good recomendation for my next fish that will get along with the clowns?

i almost got a yellow tang last night but my LFS said that you put a tang in as your last fish. is this true? it seems every fish i picked out last night, the LFS had something negative to say about putting it in my tank.

I had a yellow tang in a 55, but it is now in my 125. Now, I wouldn't recommend less than a 75.

I know how everyone has an opinion on tangs, I have a yellow tang and a yellow eye kole tang in my 55 and everyone is doing great. If i were to recomend a tang it would be the yellow eye kole tang for your 55. It will be a nice addition

How big are the clowns and what kind are they?

If you like small fish you can't beat the Clown Gobies. Sixline wrasse are very cool. Fox face are great if the tank is not to small.

I'm not a big fan of yellow tangs, they're just too plain looking, go for a sailfin or a purple tang if you want a zebrasoma family, although they do require lots of swimming space. Why not stay away from larger fish all together? Keep it small so any territorial disputes get handled on equal settings.

I believe Mike has a 90g (hence the mike90 :D).

Do you have any shrimp in your tank? If not, how about a scarlet hawkfish?

Lawnmower blennys are very cool, too...just make sure it is eating prepared foods at the LFS.

Anyone who tries to put a purple tang or a sailfin in a 55 needs punched in the mouth.

If you want something to fill the tang "niche" I would get a foxface.

I find they have mellower personalities than tangs. I am wishing now I didn't have so many big fish though, if I had it to do over again I would not have my tangs.

the clowns are actually pretty small. they are just your basic percula (spelling) clowns.

is a foxface a type of tang?

They are grazers like tangs and I believe they are distant relatives.

One thing to know about them is that they have venemous spines, so don't grab one with your bare hand.

I find my foxface is much calmer than my two tangs and a better grazer of nuisance algae. I also feel he is less negatively affected by captivity than the tangs I have, based on his demeanor. I can't explain it well but he just seems more "at ease" than the tangs.

Here is a page on the rabbitfishes, some of which are called foxface. Some do get quite large but there are many good candidates for aquariums.

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/rabbitfi.htm The one I have is Siganus (Lo) uspi, I really like him!
