I found this at McMaster Carr:

UV stabilized, these free-standing tanks can be used indoors as well as out. Made of linear low-density polyethylene, all are translucent white for viewing liquid levels and have a threaded fill cap and polypropylene NPT female bulkhead fitting with EPDM gasket (unless noted) that provides a drain opening.

Cap., O'all Wall Fill Opening, Drain
gal. Dia. Ht. Thick. Dia. Fitting Graduations Each

70 23" 42" 3/16" 8" 3/4" gal. 3662K22 • $192.73

130 29" 49" 3/16" 8" 1 1/2" gal. 3662K18 290.10

165 31" 59" 1/4" 6" 1 1/2" gal. 3662K16 * 260.00

330 47" 51" 1/4" 15" 2" gal. 3662K17 412.90

525 46" 79" 1/4" 15" 2" gal. 3662K11 535.60

• Gasket is Santoprene. * Drain fitting is polyethylene.

The 130G would work for me.

Is there less expensive stuff out there? If there is I can't find it.

Check your local newspaper for reefer who has a beat-up tank for sale. You can get a 125 gal tank for less than $100, unless you want to get one that is perfect.

That's not a bad idea 7.

I'll keep an eye out for that too.

I'd really kind of like to have a taller vessel though so that it doesn't take up much floor space.

With no earthquake to worry, you can put a tank 8 feet up in the ceiling. I feel you can figure out the support needed for such a feat. Floor space used: 0 sq. ft.

Supporting 125G of water sounds kind of scary.

It would save me from having to pump the water to the sump though.

Something to think about...

I have this exact model:

165 31" 59" 1/4" 6" 1 1/2" gal. 3662K16 * 260.00

I've been using it for years to do water changes. The built-in bulkhead is a big plus. I previously had a cheap container made of recycled plastic but it leaked. I can highly recommend these containers.

Excellent. Thanks Greg.

I think I'm going to go with the 130G version. I like the fact that it only takes a 29" footprint.

Question for Greg. Did you add a float valve near the top of yours? If so, was there any issue with drilling for the float valve and getting a good seal?

I use a float valve with my RO/DI unit. It's at the top of the container. There's no problem with drilling the container or getting a good seal. I've never had a leak anywhere.

That looks like the same tank as the one at McMaster.

McMaster is close and I'll bet their shipping will be less. I'll price it up both ways and see who's is the cheapest.

Louey,

Before you buy check with any local shops as shipping can be very pricey on these type tanks.

Check with agriculture or fertilizer type places in the yellow pages.

Wylie Spray center is local to me and I got a 200g tank that is 6' tall and 35" diameter or something close (it will fit in a 36" door) for $168 a few years back. Plastic is up some since then due to oil prices but you might call around and find something reasonable close to you. I looked on the internet forever and then found the local place in 10 minutes of phone calls.

That's where I got my 1,225g refugium from for just over $500 last year.

Found a 125G verticle tank just like the one at McMaster and the one at Plastic-mart here locally for only $198.63. And of course there are no shipping :D

Thanks again for the tip, Nathan!

Hey Mutley, did you recieve your storage container yet? Do you like it? It is well built?

The one I found locally turned out to be a horizontal unit and no one else carries them.

Looks like I'll be ordering the one that Mutley got.
