I tried inducing a split in a few of my mushrooms. I have read that if you nik it sometimes they will split. I tried that but instead of a Nik I cut almost down to the center figureing it would almost guarantee a split. This was about a week ago. Today every mushroom I halfway split are all almost healed up and show no signs of splitting. *** did I do wrong??

Forget about "inducing." Get a razor blade and just cut it in half, or quarters - whatever. You really can't go wrong.

I would just leave them. Soon they will be reproducing like rabbits.

Just cut the head off and the stump will regrow and the head will grow another stem or like Jim said cut them in half or quarter them then - put the pieces in a low flow area with some bits of shell or rock and they will grow and heal.

I like to stick my cut shrooms in a small cup full of rubble and cover the top with some netting so it's just barely snug against the shroom. Rubberband it in place, stick the cup in a low flow area and the cut shrooms will attach to the rubble in a week or two.

You could also put a rubber band around the middle of the shroom. The pressure will cut it in half in a week or so.

If you do cut it, best to take it out of the water to do it. Then rinse it in some discarded tank water thoroughly before placing it back in the tank.

Leave the evil bastards alone. They'll take over your whole tank soon enough. Then they will steal your GF and drink all you beer.

I wish I never put a shroom in my tank.

Color is everything in mushrooms. Breed the eye candy, if any can be found in mushrooms. I have seen beautiful red ones...in pictures. Nothing but junk in LFS in Ohio.
