micron filters + ro/di

I bought a Filter Direct RO/DI unit, and now that its time to replace the sediment filter, I notice that they use a 5 micron sediment filter. Would it be better to replace it with a .5 micron sediment filter? Will this slow down water production significantly? Its an 80gpd unit, and I'm wondering if the smaller the micron the better .. or if specific cartriges are used for a reason on various units.

It should not affect the output rate of your RO/DI unless the sediment filter get clogged up so badly that it decrease the pressure (dynamic pressure) when the RO is on.

rather to use a point-five or a cheap 10 micron filter is just a compromise between cost and performance. The smaller pore size give you better protection, but it also has a smaller capacity and cost more.

So are you saying it would be best to stick with the 5 micron... or should I go down to .5?

How long should the .5 last in comparison to the 5?

5 microns are plenty the membrane will reject the rest the carbon filter is what I would be worried about
