Hey guys,
My in-wall tank needs to come out cuz the frame i made for it has shifted (can't see how with 3x3's and 7" lag bolts holding it together. But looks like i will be putting it on a standard stand in the living room. Any ideas or links?

Did you not cross brace it? Just having verticals and cross member is not great. You need somthing to take the racking. Or did it fail in another way?

How big is you tank? I might be able to give a few ideas.

Wazz,
I basically had to work around the screw up in not using a sawzall in the first place, what it is is a shift from the left side bracing from front to read. I used 7" lag bolts on the 3x3". Not sure how it shifted, but looks like one of the bolts may have lost it's grip and the wood shifted around it but not terribly. I rushed it alittle, so my bad. Gonna takeit down and remake it. Gonna try BB anyway so this is a opp. to redo it right..Pretty much just need to reframe the stand. It's inwall.

not worth the effort, put this way. When i did all my measurements and the cut i ended up with the end supports being screwed in the side of the bottom rear cross brace and not on top of the cross brace like it should be, plus the wall it's in wouldn't allow me to install a bottom support in the front so i used the 2x4" of the wall as the anchor point. Gonna fix that this weekend.

You are going to rebuild the stand in the wall? If I am thinking about this correctly. It would not hurt to run some legs along the studs down to the floor so the bolts are not holding all of the load.

Now, looking for a different choice of wood this time. What are most stands made withthese days? 2x4"s etc...only a 90g so not a huge amount of weight.

bare bottom. no substrate in the tank.

Waz,
Remember this frame is open faced in a closet so i won't be using any playwood except on top, i would think the addition of the plywood adds to the rigidity of a normal stand? Plus i need space to work under the tank.

FWIW I used the garf.org stand instuctions when I built my stand for my 150. I used plywood and 2x4's and it has held up great so far. I didn't take mre then a day or two to build.

I forgot it was in a closet. Add some 1/2 or 3/4 plywood triangles in the corners. This will help keep it from shifting. If you are tieing it into all of the closet walls then it would not be necessary.
