I just purchased a large amount of rock and corals and a yellow tang from a guy who is moving. Probably 30 lbs of rock encrusted from zoos to mushrooms. At least 4 different corals probably more. They seem to be doing well in his tank. Everything looked healthy and happy. when I got all the stuff home and started the acclimation, I checked the salinity of his water and it was 1.015!! I had never heard of salt water being that low and stuff thriving. His tank is 4 years old at least. Everything looked great except for his sps but he hadn't ran his lights hardly at all in the last 2 weeks which would explain it. Just found it strange for it to be so low. Learn something new everyday.

As long came to be that way slowly and gradually over a decent period of time, it's OK. Sudden, steep changes in salinity are what stresses the most. Still, I'm surprised the corals didn't show at least SOME ill effects, since inverts generally like a higher salinity than fish and have smaller acceptable parameters.

I was very surprised that everything appeared normal. It took me 19 hours of gradual addition of my water to put the fish in. Seems to be doing great and his color has gone from almost white to bright yellow, as it should be. The corals all are open and bright now so all appears to be going well so far. Heck of a deal though. Never seen that low of salinity unless someone was curing ich.
