I researched protein skimmers for my 90 gal tank, which led me to the remora pro since I do not have a sump/drilled tank. I have it with the mag 3 pump. Ever since I got the thing, it has not performed like everyone said...just releases a ton of microbubbles into the tank, lots of clear liquid foam, and is noisy. I have tried everything, including adjusting the cup and trying the pre-filter box which was HUGE! Some say the mag 3 pump is too powerful, but I didn't feel like installing a valve...it's the reccomended pump for this skimmer! What the heck? Aqua c claims its just my "water"...bunch of crap. I don't use addatives that would make this a problem, and I do have a medium bioload. I am SEVERELY dissapointed and now I am just giving up on it and looking for another HOB model that will perform. Any votes???
I have heard the euroreeff, ASM, beckett, all those are good but I don't think they have a HOB type. Any ideas?

Im not sure how good any of these are, maybe another member could speak up for one of these and let you know how good they are...Too bad, Remoras are usually good skimmers and you are the first ive ever heard complain...ASM and Euroreef dont make HOB, none that i could find..

THe skimmer has been running for about 2 months...I just don't get it. Everyone else seems to have good luck with this product. I may just try swapping pumps just to see what happens. I think if anything is the problem, its more likely the pump? Seems to be working fine...

can you post a pic?

i assume aquac went thru the list of possible issues. but as you suggested yourself, maybe you need to downgrade to the maxijet.

Have you tried contacting the people at Aqua C? I've spoken to them a few times and they are very helpful. I recently read somewhere about someone who had his Remora spring a leak and they sent him a new skimmer at no charge.

I hate Aqua-c skimmer also and never got good production from them. In a 90 gal reef a HOT will be hard to do. I would get either two Turboflotors 1000, or the bigest HOT Lifereef model. www.lifereef.com

I have used the turboflotor on many tanks but feel it tops out at about 70 gal.

I have replaced my Aqua -C remora with a Terminator by D&D Marine.

The Terminator uses a Mag 7 or a couple of other equivelent pumps. It is a great skimmer. The PVC plumbed in and outs allow for tweaking of the water flow to make sure you are always able to push foam out of the collection cup.

The assembly of the skimmer requires some work. I had some difficulty but I think the extra effort was worth it.

Everyone else seems to have good luck with this product.

If you hang around this forum for a couple of years and watch the skimmer posts you may start to wonder about that.

I have been running an AquaC Remora Pro with prefilter box (which, yes, is huge & ugly, but effective) with a MaxiJet 1200 since I setup my tank just over a year ago. Unfortunately, I do not have experience with any others to compare with.

Makes sound, yes, but never really thought it was 'noisy'. It has varied in its skimmate density over time. Usually only produces thin, watery skimmate when there something added to the water, like coralline growth food or somehting like that. Thin skimmate is indicative of something in the water increasing its surface tension, isn't it?
