I've got a 55 gallon Reef tank:
A. with NO fish,
B. No Stars (brittle or serpent)
C. 1 bullseye pistol shrimp
D. 2 Astrea snails, 1 turbo snail.
E. Lots of live rock

I'm beginning to grow algae, because nothing is keeping it in check.

I'd like to stock this with some reef-safe fish and critters.
1. I'd like it lively, but also eco-useful (would need some algae eating critters too).
2. I'd like to stock it with as many fish as possible.
3. Colorful would be a big plus...don't want any drab-in-color species
4. Personality definitey would make up for drab color. :P
5. (Hard one->) Friendly over territorial would be a big plus.

After a big tank loss due to a stand failure (flakeboard), PH and Cryptocarian issue, I think I'm ready to build this back up again! Any ideas or suggestions to get my creative juices going would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for the many responses!

I'd start with some hermit crabs and some cerith snails. That will take care of your algae. Then, I'd add a pair of clowns (can't complain of the colors there). You take it from here :).

Looks like a lawnmower. Eats algae too. ;) I just added a yellow coris wrasse to my 30 cube. Bright color, and active fish. Pretty cool to watch it dive into the sand bed too.

Toss in a few more turbo snails to help with the algae.

For personality, engineer/convict gobys are awesome! They have "puppy dog eyes" and are just to much fun. 8)

Guy! What kind of blenny is that?

Yep, Lawnmower. Not brightly colored but full of personality. Useful for microalgae removal as well.

Oscar certainly isn't Anorexic. I've considered renaming him "Jabba".
