Cleaning Glass

I have used a magnet and large turbo snails in the past but now I have meat eaters that love to eat inverts. I bought a scrubber but hey....it does a poor job of cleaning the glass and I have lots of stuff growin on my glass now. Got any tips?

Mag-float or other algae magnets. They work well.

Kent Marine's Proscrapers come with either plastic or metal edges, come with short or long handles, & even extensions... The metal edge makes short work of everything

Our LFS had these cool razor blade attachments for the Mag-Floats. Once you get the blade adjustments set they work really good. I'm not sure who makes them though. We've also used a razor blade on the end of a dowel rod. For my smaller tanks (where I can reach with my short arms :wink: ) a credit card does work good as well.

My best friends for cleaning glass are razorblades. Box of 100 at local hardware store for about 6 bucks. I try to do it every Sunday while I watch the Nextel cup race. I find it pretty amusing most of my corals open up like feeding time once the particles start to float around. It takes about 5 minutes to clean the glass and then I do about a 5 to 10 gallon water change sucking out all the floatys I can catch. It works real well actually. The razor blade sheets off the algae so It stays in pretty big clumps that float around that are easy to suck out. I only use a scrubber on the silicone in the corners.

Razor blade on a stick. I used a piece of PVC with a slot on it for cleaning the glass on my 110. For my 60 acrylic I use a plastic putty knife.

Yuppers! I got one for the tank size slightly larger than what I own, so its stronger. Make sure you don't hit sand with it on the bottom. I like the mag-FLOATs exactly for that reason.

I use all kinds of stuff, depends on the job. Razor blades for the tuff stuff, KM proscrapers for the hard to reach areas, Mag Floats for the easy to remove algae in large areas.

I like my glass to sparkle
