Yeah, I picked up a tds meter a few weeks ago. I'll give it to a friend maybe. I was undecided though, I was going to get the hi-s model, but wanted those bells and whistles too. And since I have one of those el cheapos di's for the kitchen sink jobs, I'll just (hopefully) stick it on as the last filter. On a good note... where I plan on hooking it up, doesn't have any copper pipes!!
Hey ChrisV, did you get your ro/di yet? Mine is scheduled for delivery today. Woohoo, but I'll still have to lug jugs, mine is getting hooked up in the barn 200' from the house.
Yea I got the typhoon in yesterday, already changed water with it...
Seems like a nice ro filter and all, but my goneapora (not sure if I spelled that right) hasnt opened since I changed water. I have always used distilled before this.
I really hope it hasnt effected the goneapora, it was given to me almost dead and it took a long time to start looking good again.
I didnt take a tds reading of the ro water... I let it break in for about 2 hours though...
Guess I need a new tds meter, first time I tried to use it in a long time. When I turn it on it constantly counts all through the scale. Oh well I get another one soon.
The goneapora didnt open at all today(which is strange), il let you guys know tomorrow. Think my fish store guy will test it for me so maybe I get a tds reading tomorrow.
Regular typhoon, woulda got the T3 had I known my meter was broken.
May just get the pinpoint conductivity meter. The water was about neutral ph, and tastes extremely clean like distilled but that doesnt really say much. City water is very hard here so its doing a lot for sure...
Well I guess a test by your LFS will confirm how well it's doing. Remember to seal the container you carry it in as CO2 disolving into the water will let it read a higher, misleading conductivity.
Did you change anything else with your water change (salt brand, etc.)?
I have a Pinpoint conductivity meter and it works well.
That seems too high, especially for a new system.
Do you remember what pressure your guage shows?
Here are a couple of articles done by Randy Farley that helped me a lot to understand how a RO/DI systems works and what is TDS.
Well worth the read IMO. Reverse Osmosis/Deionization Systems to Purify Tap Water for Reef Aquaria http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-05/rhf/index.htm
No pressure gauge on the regular typhoon... Guess il fiddle with it more when I get a meter. I have a feeling its got somthing to do with the ratio of waste to ro water.
You may need to get a pressure valve for it as the RO membrane won't be too efficient it the pressure is too low and may be damaged if too high (40-60 psi).
Give those articles a read. Really explains a lot.
