Disposing of saltwater in a septic system

I am very leary of disposing of my saltwater after a water change in my plumbing as I have a septic system. Are my fears unfounded? I have poured some down the drain and carted some off to my work to pour into the sewer system.

Any suggestions???

I'm on a septic system also. I haven't had any problem yet. But I have also wondered about this.

But if your concerned, why not just find a patch of weeds in the yard you don't like and do 'em in?

How much are you looking to dispose of? Do you run you sink, tub and washer into the same system? As far as I know 5-10 gallons of salt water once a week are not going to hurt anything.

If you septic tank is 2000 gal, and you dump 50 gal of saltwater down the drain, the amout of saltwater than 2.5% (actual value is less, but max is 2.5%) of the total volumn. Consider that the salinity of the saltwater is around 3.5%, the dilution will make it nothing to be concern about.

I've wondered about this too, and I usually stagger out into a weedy part of the back yard to release my fluids. My "septic" system is probably a rusty old 55 gallon drum, so I guess it doesn't really matter anyway!
