Nice shots marillion.

I'm really intrigued by the mantle ones. What kind of coral is that?

Not a coral. Those are the mantles of a Tridacna sp. clam...I think it's T. maxima.

Wasome :).

Really nice Chip, how do you do your pics? Do you stop all pumps (return & circulation)? Do you use flash from above? What gear do you have? I assume you don't get the camera in the tank (with an underwater cover of course), right?

Finally, I can see you like your corals weird a bit plumpy don't you?

Ah.. man, I love those. All the research I do indicates they require "high" lighting, but I've yet to determine if my lighting and proper placement would constitute as "high".

Could someone tell me.. if I had such a clam that was no more than 6 inches from 2x36watt high compact flourescents (50/50 actinic).. would that be acceptable?

My gut tells me 'no', but my gut is new to this hobby. :)

Yes, I shut off both filters and the skimmer so the tank is still. No flash is used at all. I shoot with a Nikon Coolpix 995 on it's standard macro setting. The camera gets about 1-2" from the surface of the water, and that's all. I take about 150-200 shots every session.

Okay, I don't understand this question. :)

Peace,

Chip

Maximas need a LOT of light, PC lights, especially just 2x36W are not enough IMO. I'm not an expert though, so just repeating what I have read in other places :)

Thanks Chip. Perhaps one day I'll try the recipe in my own tank. For now I'm really pissed with lots of microbubbles.
