I see lots of pods scurring around when I turn my light on. And the last couple of days I have not added the top off water like I should and I see alot more smaller ones on the glass. I looked at them with a 10 power loop and I think they are copapods. I tested the salinty and of course its higher then I normally keep it. So should I try to maintain it at the higher level?

Thanks
Teddy

With a Marine Enterprise,inc. hydrometer I was ceeping it at 1.024 - 1.025. Now its like 1.027.

The reason why I ask is because I know they are not accurate but it is very repeatable so I thought I would try this for a month or so.

There is only LR and Hair alge in the tank right know. With water changes and rock scrubbing I hope to have a stable tank. Its about 2 years old and I gave all the fish away because I thought that the pods could help eat the HA.

Wow.... I thought more people would have a comment about this.

So what do you all think about keeping my salt to high? Are there any problems with having an elavated salt level?

and after 2 days I still have more pods then I did before.

Thanks Teddy

IMO anything in that range (1.024 to 1.027) is fine. Although I doubt the increase in pods is directly related to the higher SG, if things look good, I would leave it alone.

Don't keep it too high. It's true - 1.024 - 1.027 is OK, but 1.025-1.026 is preferrable. The most important thing is stability. And I agree with Chris: the increase in pods has nothing to do with salinity increase: it just happened to be at the same time: it takes a few weeks (2?) for the copepods to complete a lifecycle, so nothing would happen in 2 days.
