How many tangs can you actually keep in captivity of 90G tanks space? I have 3 right now and I want to try another one. Probably, purple tang but i am afraid of compatibility issue.

Your sailfin alone will out grow a 90gal. I wouldn't add any more.

I would say you are definately at your limit in my opinion. I persoanlly feel the limit is one or two in a 90 and they will possibly have to be removed at some point as they grow and depending on personality

I say go for it, I know alot of people are going to shoot me for saying that, but you are not sharing the room in the tank with any other swimmers (chromis dont count). The word of caution is to see which tang is the aggressor, and try to pick a purple a little bigger than that one.
I have seen up to four tang in a 90 live happily ever after. I have three tangs in my 150 for 4 years with miniumal problems, I have 21 fish in all in the tank. 8O Crazy, maybe, but i am enjoying it and there are no problems :!:

I would agree that you already have two too many tangs. Please consider the adult size of these fish and plan for the future. I assume your goal is to keep these fish for their natural lifespan.

I have 3 yellow, 1 naso and 1 powder blue in a 255 gallon tank. They have been together now for 4 years and all are happy and healthy. They were all introduced into the tank at about the same time, so that may have something to do with their success. :)

lol, i love the tang police pic.

Anyways, I think that all of those tangs that you have will outgrow the 90g, so I wouldn't add anymore.

OK maybe i will be wrong and maybe i wont. I have had my three tangs in a 150 gal tank for 4 years and they have NOT out grown the tank. Maybe in 10 years i dont know i will see at that time but at least i will enjoy my fish for 10 years before i have to move them.

I would not add any more to a 90. IMO three is the limit if not over. The Sailfin will get huge.

Well there is the whole debate of what is a natural lifespan so don't use that argument or reason to sway your judgement. The best and most plausible reason would be to make the quality of living the best for your specimens. IMO you have no room left for another tang. Tangs and I believe the smallest one you have will get at least 7" long while your regal will attain 12" and your sailfin a mighty 15". Now you don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the problems your going to run into. Start saving now for a nice big 150 or 210 tank in the future. Otherwise you'll be shooting yourself in the foot and asking for disease/pestilence ect... in your tank. Happy fish = Happy fish tank.

How long are we talking here? All aruguements aside, real honest answer, How long will it take to get 7'', 12'' 15''? IMO he has plenty of room for the swimmers of the sea. I will agree that when they start to get 7'' to 8'' he will have to look at buying up. HOW LONG?

I think the key thing here is the tank...Thats 2.8 times bigger than the tank in question, not to mention the importance of the diameter.

So I think the best solution is to go by 2.8 less fish.

Heres you equasion 5 tangs / 2.8 = 1.78 tangs for your 90g...

Yeah I think that settles it :!:
