Yellow Tail Damsel

Hey there,

I've been itching to add a nice bold-blue fish to my 24gallon. I have a percula and an orchid dottyback with some corals and lots of hiding places in the rock work. Plus, I want to keep things peaceful.

From what I've been reading, the yellow tail damsel is one of the more peaceful types of damsels. But this is afterall, comparitive to what I'm gathering is a pretty aggressive species. But some sites have listed it as a fish that 'prefers peaceful inhabitants'.

Could anyone lend there thoughts? If not the damsel, any suggestions on a rich blue fish that would fit... I'm all ears.

Stay away from Damsels they will do nothing but break your heart. How about a Cherub Angel?

Centropyge argi (the angel) can get aggressive. Possibly even more aggressive than Chrysiptera parasema (the most common 'yellow tail blue damsel' sold). It's fairly mellow as damsels go. C. argi also gets bigger.

Having said that, I think both species could work in your tank.

FWIW, add the angel LAST. I've had one, and after I added him, he became very territorial. IME.

Doh! I meant to say EITHER species would work...but not both. Me and my communication skills.

I've had yellow tail blue damsels before and have found them to be pretty aggressive and territorial, but they are very deep blue under the right lighting. Never had any other fish while I had them. With my new tank, I'll be getting a percula and neon blue goby.

I had 3 of them in my 90 gallon. . . they were pretty tiny. . . that didn't stop them from nearly killing my new purple tang last year. i had to tear all the rock out to catch them. I still have them in my fish only aquarium. . . they're yours if you want them. . . nasty little buggers!
