Hey, has anyone tried implementing the surge device described in Eric Bourneman's book on corals. I have tried the Carlson Surge Device (too many bubbles), and a dump bucket device (too messy); so when I read Eric's book I thought that I would try the Bourneman Surge Device.

Well, I cannot get it to work. As the surge tank fills, the toilet float begins to open the flush valve, but never completely! The flush valve just opens a little, just enough to offset for the incoming water, but never completely - thus NO SURGE! I am obviously doing something wrong.

Anyone out there been able to get one to work!

Thx!

Simon

You need a) a bigger pump or b) a smaller outlet opening. How big is it now?

I am still trying to get a surge device working. IME they can be a lot harder then they look. In my case I am having to get a balance between the top float and the floats close to the bottom surge valve. I wish you good luck. I either got lotsa small surges from the top valve or the bottom valve would not reliably close.
