What are some of the worst things you have ever done to yourself while working on the tank?

I'll share mine: I was finishing up with the kalkwasser paste after nuking several aiptasia. I looked over at my husband who was gabbing at me about something, then I looked directly down into the cup where I was putting the remaining paste back in with the syringe.. and promptly shot myself in the eye with it.

the only thing I've done, besides getting bitten or stung by my eels or lions, was put a flat head driver through(yes, all the way through) the webbing between my left thumb and forefinger- it had slipped off the clamp screw I was cranking down on. I have sensory nerve damage in my hands and arms, so it didnt hurt really, but it was interesting trying to revive my roomate after I had asked him to help remove it from my hand

Nothing more than minor bump and bruses. My wallet take a worse beating than I do.

i broke two ribs while working on my tank. . . i have a 90 gallon with a 10 inch canopy so i built a little two setp platform that i could place in front of it. well when i designed it i did not think to make any non-slip surfaces. there was water on the step as i was leaning to reach the sand bed 30+ inches below and my foot slipped. well i came crashing down on the edge of the step and broke two ribs. i really didn't even feel any pain at first, i was too busy gasping for air. ouch!

had my left wrist sliced down to the bone, from falling onto a tank from a ladder while acclimating a shipment.(hand was hanging from the arm at the wrist).

after close to 15 yrs, my left hand is only about 40% 'good'-still has nerve damage, dexterity/manipulation issues, etc etc.

you can find a pic of the kewl scar somewhere in the sump, hehe.

oh-also...

almost lost a finger to both a piranha (bit me through the bag after i'd caught it for a customer, back in the late 70's) and a tesselata about 3 yrs ago(nicked me ring finger-nice small puncture wound that bled ALOT)

why don't lfs employees ever get hazard pay ?

Ow. And yuck. I probably would have passed out.

Got a nasty mysterious rash on both hands and forearms once when working on aquascaping a nano a few years back. Turns out I'm allergic to the toxin secreted by filter feeding cukes. The little bugger showed himself a few days later and was promptly yanked from the tank.

then there was the time i got burned on both forearms by a 16" carpet anemone as it draped over both arms while lifting it out of a show tank for a customer

had a rash for 2 weeks, that re-ignited every time my arms got wet, showers included

oy :P

like i said, where's the hazard pay ?

I remember a thread here a while back about someone who killed a few nudi's via squishing and later almost died/had to go to the hospital from something they secreted. 8O

I stepped off my ladder into a bucket of water once and had the most spectacular bruise on my foot and ankle. Had to go right to a golf lesson, when it was over I could hardly get my shoe off. :)

Do these have to be tank related??

I once rolled my ankle in the parking lot of the Birch Aquarium. Hurt so bad I had to sit down right where it happened. I heard popping noises too. Wasnt good. Made me breathe hard

I scrapped my forearm up on some Acropora ("Green Slimer"). It was minor abrasions that I didn't think much of at the time. The problem is, everytime I put my arms into the tank for extended sessions, I break out in a rash. This would be my worst injury since it's chronic :?
