Hey all, just got to a computer and wanted to tell everyone who lives close to the ocean/gulf or large body of water this "When the weatherman says to leave, get the F" out!" It took me nearly two weeks to return to my home after the storm hit. What I found was absolutely horrifying and made me VERY Mad. Three of my four tanks 46, 100, and 30 gallon were totally DEAD. Fish and coral that I have had for years were dead. It made me feel like I lost several family members. I have been seriously involved in the hobby for many years now and my hardest work has been lost. The three tanks mentioned above had a scum line on them that appeared as if it were almost 1/8" thick! FFS, I found dead bristleworms. Even the hair algae was dead LOL/TEAR! My house had about 4' of water and the shingles and tar paper were gone from the roof. The roof and rafters are actually shifted! Thank God my family made it and I have yet to hear of any lost friends or distant family. After adding it all up, I have lost over $12,000 in equipment and nearly the same in livestock and other "nick-nacks". One strange thing...I have a 75 gallon that was recently set up and it contains several mushrooms, 4 hermits and a small polyp rock. This tank is close to a window and get this...the water is still clear, the livesand shows hermit footprints and the little hermits and polyps are still thriving!!! Gives me hope! Wish me luck and pray for the families that have lost loved ones. Sorry to bother everyone with my problems but this is my first chance to get to Reefs.org and I wanted to vent a little. I have pics so when I get something other than dial-up I will show you all some ofthe damage.

I've often wondered about those of us that live/d in the wake of Katrina, how they all faired? I know that Waz left for drier/hotter ground and is making a racket down in the sump, but how is his home and has he gone back yet? What of the others? Any word on them?

K9, I am so glad that you and your family made it to safety! But saddened about your tank loses. Freaking mushrooms are like cockroaches, they'll survive a nuclear halicaust!

In the mean time whilst you dwell upon your loses, remember that we still have you and you still have your family. Good luck, bra.

Thanks for asking. I just made it back to get my tank yesterday. Like K9 it was really nasty. Lucky for me the house had only minor wind damage.

K9 sorry to hear about your house. Best of luck to you.

Anyone here know an Allstate adjuster by chance!!! LOL, It's been a few weeks and still no one has come by to check out my damage. With hurricane Rita recently "clipping" us, I have more water in my house than in those dead tanks! BTW, the three hermits are still looking good along with the polyps and mushrooms - Amazing. Found the wedding video along with some pics....all ruined! It is crazy how much you miss this crap when it's gone! I tried like hell to get the wife to put it in storage but she would not. lol - at least now I will have more space for a larger tank. Thanks for all the replies. I really miss my DSL and my computer. This dial up sucks but it is much better than nothing at all! Keep in touch guys/girls.

Allstate should have given you the number to contact you adjuster directly. If they did not contact them. If it is the flood adjuster guy you are waiting to hear from I hear they are taking a long time to get around. They are a different set of adjusters and not Allstate. Check you policy to see who to contact. My brother in law in Kenner has not had his house looked at either as of this past weekend. His adjuster refused to give his number so he could not be contacted.
