Turbo snail poo...

Hi all!

We've just started a reef tank. We have a 360l main tank with 50kg of live rock and we have opted for a sump tank with miracle mud and calerpa. We have about 20 turbo snail and some hermits.

What is strange is that we've just moved a turbo snail and put it directly in the sump tank (on it's own). It now seems to be producing lots of tiny black poos! It may have been doing it before, but it is very noticable now (there are about 50 of the things in only one night)

Hope some of you have had some simillar experiences and could advice - is the snail ill? Should we remove it?

I've never known a snail to get the stomach flu , and am thinking its just the Macro Algae that the snail is grazing on.

Hopefully someone else will chime in here with other ideas.

Astreas/Turbos eat algea and poo, ceriths eat soem algea but also the astrea/turbo poo. SO if you add a large amount of ceriths they will eat the poo and detritus in general allowing you a little less to suck up. I use 100 ceriths in my 40g breeder and 30 astreas at this point.

Your poo dousn't stay the same color, so why should theirs?

Don't remove it - what's the worst it will happen? It will die - it's not enough meat in it to mess up your water. He may live and thank you for it later (may come to you during the night and grant you three wishes ).
