I have a 58G tank. (36x18x21)

The tank is bare bottom, I have SPS/LPS/Clam.

My return is a Mag9.5

I currently have 2 Maxijet 1200's and a Closed loop plumbed with 3/4 plumbing to a Blueline HD 40 (790 GPH) pump to a Oceans Motions Squirt to 4 returns. All the plumbing is on the top off the tank. I do not want to run the CL to the bottom of the tank in case of a leak.

In the curent setup the flow from the closed loop is not much of anything. I could probably get a bigger pump but that would require me to replumb the whole closed loop and the Squirt is only 3/4 anyway.

I do not want the powerheads in the tnak or at least not so many.

Some pics of the closed loop.

Any ideas?

And no, Plants will not make enough flow.

Well it seems like 790gph would be good. The squirt uses 1 and 1/4 port each turn so you should have plenty of flow. Maybe it's velocity that's lacking? Have you tried reducing the oulets to 1/2"?

Understood. But if you reduce the output size it might improve the velocity by creating more backpressure on the squirt. Grasping at straws I guess??? My squirt should be arriving in the next day or so. I had the modification made to it to run on 2 outlets instead of 4 for the exact reason you state.

Short of a new pump I'm fresh out of suggestions. If you get a new pump maybe a pressure rated pump would help? I think the squirt fizzles out over 1000gph. I'm using a mak4 at 6' feet of head it's about 950gph but that's at 10psi. I'm running eductors which increase the flow 5x so I'll be getting 4750gph out of 1000gph pump. Something to consider?

I have my squirt placed lower near my pump. I used 3/4" vinal tubing to trasport the water up to elbows that bend into the tank. The water is directed out through Loc-Line. This allows me to adjust the direction of the flow. Maybe you could try reconfiguring your piping to reduce angles. I don't think that it's your pump that is the problem. 750 should do pritty good. You could also try asking the people at OM for ideas. They have forums set up for questions.

The only thing I see that might be causing problems is the suctions side. It could be producing extra losses. I would up size it to 1" or 1.25".

The problem with changing the suction side is this. I used the standard return hole (3/4) as the supplu for the CL.

I removed the Squirt. and just used loc-line to a "WYE" and the flow is still crappy. Either the pump is messed up or I dont get it. I will probably order 5 more maxijet 1200's and clutter the tank. With 7 powerheads that can hide the hair algae maybe.

How do you like the OceansMotions product?

Just one thing, have you cleaned the pump? Flow goes way down if there's a calciferous buildup on the impeller.

The pump was cleaned a few weeks ago.

I liked the design adn the action of the Oceans Motions. My only problem is you need a larger pump to get any decent flow.

If you took put the OM them it is not your problem. Before you trash the pump and squirt try an over the back suction on the CL pump. I think you are getting lots of losses on the suction side. Use 1" or 1.25" PVC. I have 1" on the suction of my bl40 that is my return pump. I am really happy with the flow even thou I have the extra head to overcome.
