I recently replaced my RO housing and membrane. The new housing has a pressure gauge built into it. I was recently (before the change) getting a little higher than rated output of water, about 80 gpd out of a 60 gpd membrane. I still am getting the higher output and I see that the pressure is running aboput 100psi if no other water in the house is being used. I have a in-line TDS meter on it as well and the input water is around 49ppm and the RO output before the DI is 0-1ppm. I am wondering if the higher pressure and related output is a bad thing over time.

I imagine that higher pressures may mean that the membrane needs to be replaced more frequently, but I wouldn't worry about it. 0-1 ppm is great IMO. We have over 600 ppm going in where we live, and if we get an output of under 5 ppm we are thrilled.

Its actually closer to 700 than 600. I think the last check was around 670 or so.

The showers hurt.

That's what I was thinking, the higher pressure cutting down on the longevity, but if it is only 49 coming in, I guess that would balance out. I was actually surpirsed by that reading, I was thinking it would be much higher than that.

If TDS is that low on the input you may never have to change the RO. Do you run a bypass occationally to flush the membrane?

Not yet. It is one of things I always mean to get but never seem to remember.

If anyone is worry about too high of pressure, get a pressure regulator for a few bucks.
