I got a new Blood/Fire shrimp, and I notice its way more cryptic than my Skunk cleaner. Maybe its because I just added it, but it went right to the back of the tank, and it hasn't been seen since.

Is there anyway I can train it to feel more comfortable in the open? I tried feeding some cyclopeeze squirt, and it didn't come out.

They're pretty reclusive. Mine only hangs out in my caves or on the reef face at night,

I had a skunk and a blood shrimp. After a month or so, I began to see the blood a little more. However it was always much more shy than the skunk.

Yes there is a way. If it was stressed during the transfer (probably) then it will have already molted and it will hide for a couple/few days.

After that if you keep a small piece of food handy and try to hand feed it in a non-threatening manner it will quickly associate you walking into the room with food. Once this happens you'll see it a LOT. :)

The same is true for the Peppermint Cleaner Shrimp.

 Great pics Guy! Mine do the same thing when they see the big syringe I use to target feed as they have learned I feed them before the corals.

Cool pictures! Yeh, after first adding it yesterday, I still haven't seen it once! I'll give feeding it a shot when I see it. Are there any foods that it may come out for other than the chunky stuff like krill that I would have to wave in front of its face? What kind of squirts might it like? It didn't come out for the cyclopeeze squit.. my guess, probably new and stressed.

I hear they can kick skunk butt when the skunk molts.. should this be a concern in 100+ gals?

Will adding more fire shrimp make them more comfortable with coming into the open, or will they still exibit the same reclusive behavior?

Give him a week or so and he will come out and then coax him with some food like Guy said and pretty soon he will notice you when you come up to the tank and he will be waiting for you to feed him. All my shrimp are like voultcures when I walk up to the tank ,they all take food from my hand. They really get to know you,and every one has a different personallity. Shrimp are my favorite inverts. Even my Harleqins are tame.I feed them one med size star once a month, they will plosh it off in 3 wks, then I waite a week and give them another one.they can be behind some rock, but as soon as that star hits the water boy here they come. It's almost like they can smell it. They are my favorite pets, all'tho I do like my yellow hairry hermit a lot too.

I just got two more young Hawaiian Yellow Hairy hermits.Dan at Saltty Critter got them for me, they cost $24.95 each, well worth the money, but ther are ferocus predditers and need th be in a tank that has only shrimp in it ,no coarls ,they will destory them. They get to be huge,Brutis is over 6inch accross. He loves to eat mantis shrimp.

Seeing now that I am retired I am going to try and raise capitive breed Harlequin 's .I have all my time now to devote to trying to raise them. I receantly talked to a guy in Koera who has had some sucess in rearing the young, so it can be done.
