I've seen one in action, and it does what it's suppose to. It is rather big though, and there are more elegant solutions out there IMO. For example, the Tunze wavebox, a Tunze stream system, or Ecotech's new Vortex pump which debuted at MACNA 2005 (very cool product!)
It is really an engineering masterpiece. Mounts magentic, no heat transfer to tank, no possibility of shock, wireless controller, battery backup, etc etc etc .... Tell me that doesn't sound incredible!
Wow. That is exactly what I was thinking of when I thought of using a magnetic stir bar to make water motion in a nano in THIS thread. See your comment Len
Now I wish I would have actually made one  Of course I would never have envisioned making it stick to the glass the way they do. That is genius. I was just planning on sticking the stir bar at the bottom of a BB tank, and having the motor in the stand.
Ooooh. Just got a crazy idea. Assuming the magnetic attraction is not too great, I could imagine moving this thing all over the place during a tank cleaning to stir up detritus and what not.
Well, imagine placing the outside portion on a chain or light mover type motor, moving the propeller back and forth in your tank all day long. Soft, gentle flow that moves easily. What a cool device.
I knew I saw this idea somewhere. It was Dizzy's. Back in that great Eco-Aqualizer thread, he posted:
"I am using a set of cleaning magnets attached to a linear motion lead screw with limit switches that change direction, to automatically clean my rotating aquarium and the results are almost unbeliveable. The glass stays perfectly clean on the 44.5" diameter 300-gallon aquarium. I have been a little lazy on taking the acrylic safe pad that is inside of the inner magnet out for cleaning and the tank continues to stay spotlessly clean. The live rocks and fake rockwork inside the tank are covered in coraline algae, yet not a speck forms on the acrylic cylinder walls. I'm a born skeptic, but I am not totally convinced magnets have no magic. Only those who try something have the right to judge it."
I am very interested in finding out if this type of system could be utilized with the Vortech.
does anyone know how much will the pump cost? It is very interesting, great designed and of couse save lot of room for corals. I am using the seio 1100 and 2600. its took lots of space in my tank.
