Hey,

I have a pretty little Sarcophyton sp. leather. I was wondering how to propogate this thing. If I'm not mistanke Sprung writes to just cut the "stalk" in half and the bottom half will grow another head and polyps. Has anyone ever done this with success???

Thanks,

B.

I have done it many times over, you can chop all the head off or just a piece and it will grow back fast. They attach real easy also. I once had a leather with a stalk so thick I had to use a 10" serated bread knife to chop off the top!

Yes, I do it all the time. :D Chop off whatever size piece you want the new frag to be. YOu can chop the whole top off, or just some arms.

Here you can see how I took a sarcophyton out of the water and chopped it to a stump.

I can't really see the leather in that picture, Laura. Can we have a few more pictures of your beautiful smile?

 :D

You can cut them just about anyway you'd like. However, a serrated knife should not be used. They tear at the flesh, I would use a regular knife or a razor.

The center Sarco is the mother in the first photo and the second photo is her baby that I razored off her.
