You know, if you "cook" the rock, a sand bed tank will also function quite well....probably better than the BB :)

I totally agree!! It's not a process limited to BB, I think anyone having hair algae that won't go away after trying all the standard methods should maybe give this a try.

I have respect for all methods of reef keeping, yes even Bob's. Some work better than other depending on what you are trying to grow. :D

Wazzel,

Is that a bare bottomn tank I see????? with algae growth??? We better get the Bomber (form Rc) police to investigate!!!!

Yep, and Jerly will ask you if you cooked your rock first. If not, it's probly phosphate ridden. Not to worry either way, blast the rock every day with a strong PH and vacumn. Crank the skimmer and it'll be gone in no time.

The HA cam from my holding tank, which was neglected for the 4 months all lived in there. Before that it was in my 110 that was starting to have problems with a DSB. IT is reeceeding. The massive flow in my tank blows all of the crud out. I have been having to clean the skimmer every 3 days. I have 14 snails that are doing a ggod job. I do a 10% water change every week, harvest the HA when it is long enough. I am not worried, the tank is improving every day. In another couple of weeks all should be back to normal.
