what size are you setting up next?

52x28x28. Not much bigger (about 180 gallons) but that's the biggest I can fit in that particular space.

I'm going with sand, but not a DSB this time. I should have about 1-2" of substrate this time around. Another change is I plan to vacuum the sand (half during one session, the other half during the next session). I had no problems with my DSB, and I haven't ruled out the possibiity of adding sand in the future.

I might have stuff for sale but right now, I'm just focusing on getting this beast down. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the compliments!

I'm off to tank down the tank. If I don't post by Monday, call the authorities to report a man crushed by a 200 lb tank.

I was checking out Len's website and noticed both a calcium reactor and kalkreactor... What is the difference? I have a calcium reactor what advantages does a kalkreactor provide? Is there a kalkreactor that people can recommend?

Thanks
Chris

I'm contemplating moving my sump from directly under my tank to an outside (another room) location. My tank is 120 gallons and my current drain pipe is 2". I'm concerned that I will hear alot of water drainage noise from re-routing the water flow. I noticed an interesting set up that Len put together in his previous tanks plumbing. I have attached pictures below, can anyone comment on the design of this drainage setup?

Sorry for all the questions,
Chris

A kalk reactor does not use CO2, it just dissolves the kalkwasser in fresh water.

I believe an additional benefit of a kalk reactor is that kalkwasser will precipitate phosphate out of the water. I don't use one (Not that I don't want to but there are only so many gadjets I can buy!! ) so I cannot recommend one.

I like my geosreef.com kalkreactors. Along with what Laura said, they also help keep pH balanced when used with a calcium reactor. The stir bar ones always stuck for me. The powerhead ones need the impeller changed every few months.
