I have a 90 gallon reef, with various sps and lps. It has been set up for about a year now and all looks well.

I just upgraded my sump to a larger one, which I made myself. I also just installed a Euroreef CS6-2+ which is doing great. (The main reason I changed my sump is because my older sump was not big enough to hold the euroreef.

Anyway, just have a question regarding water movement and flow. Currently, I just have one Tunze 6010 adjustable powerhead in my tank. I was wondering if this is enough to create adequate movement. I used to have 4 maxijets and decided to reduce the number of powerheads and go for the tunze.

Any advice? The only problem I have with this Tunze is that it is quite large, but the flow is great. Just curious if others have had great success with other brands, etc.

Thanks a lot fellas.

you must have more than just the tunze.. what moves water to and from the sump?

I have a built-in overflow in my tank that flows water to the sump, obviously. For a return, I have a Mag 18 (yes, this is pretty strong), but I equalize it by having the return T'd - one goes back into the sump, and the other returns to the tank. It took a bit of adjusting to get it right, but I think I got it OK.

I understand your question now - so, yes - I do have pretty good overall water flow and circulation, I believe at least. But I just wanted to know if I should have more than my Tunze in my tank to create better movement inside and avoid any dead spots....

i think i will answer yes?

my way of knowing if i have enough is to look at the entire sand bed and at coral polyps (as well as my weed macros  ).. if they are moving then i have enough flow. if i have too much the bed has left the glass.

it would be a good idea to add some random movement in there of some kind... seaswirl, squid, threeway, etc..
