yeah, that is a bit much I think, but damn it is pretty. Anyone know about aquarium life expectancy? I can see spending that much for a larger fish with a longer life expentancy, but how long do dartfish live in our tanks?

This would be a nice target fish for aquaculture!

I can get it for much cheaper...about the retail price of a purple firefish. but it normally goes for around $100.

Husbandry for Nemateleotris and Ptereleotris is virtually identical. Only difference is that Ptereleotris gets a little bit larger so it needs a bit more space. If I were to set up a tank expressly for the purpose of breeding them....

Mixed coral rubble and fine sand bed
Minimal live rock
Around 100 gallons, and tall
2-3 Alpheid pistol shrimp
An Amblyeleotris or other similar shrimp partner
Huge refugium, frequent feedings

They lay their eggs in a depression in the sand. Some species form groups (harems possibly?) while others form pairs. They are very often found sharing the burrows of shrimp-goby pairs. Spawning has occurred in captivity but I don't know if anyone has actually tried raising the eggs.
