LMAO  I just came to these boards about a week ago, and never in a million years thought I'd be reading this many pages either about a subject so obvious, let alone posting on it!
I want to stop reading and posting about it....HELP!....we need a plb support group.

I can't believe we went again through a PLB thread! I think Righty had the right idea at some point: PLB has some time to kill and likes to argue. It's like wrestling with pigs in the mud: they love it!

We know very well what water changes can do for a tank, Wade wrote an article in the advanced aquarist last year, we saw the results in PLB's tanks... why 10 pages of discussions?

The most incredible thing, however, is that I read those 10 pages!?!

I liked reading all ten pages :D If nothing else you have to admire PLB's conviction. I find it funny that an "old FW guy" can try to use that methodology in a reef tank. Of course I wouldn't argue his method at all in a FW tank

First what is PLB (assuming something, something, Bob or the likes) Second I started a simple thread on water changes that quickly diverted to Macros and poor methods..Bob is not gonna talk me out of my maintenance...For one, it isnt poor practice, if not beneficial..The garbage talk continues to go on...Im gonna say Put up or shut up also...
"Get plant life going and you'll have no problems"..Hogwash!
I have yet to see a tank thrive with Bobs methods, ie tap water top off, low lighting, low flow, and pure macros and minimal to no maintenance...If anything youd be doing more maintenance.
This is blasphemy and garbage..I say Go sell AmWay!

I agree lord. It was a simple water change thread andit did generate.

So sticking to just water changes and to repeat water changes will never maintain anything in the tank. It will slow down changes but not reverse trends. Something else must remove excesses from those things increasing or add to the things being depleted.

What is important if how you manage those things. Lowering the excesses and dosing the depletion will still be necessary. That is what is important. When that is accomplished then the system can run for years and years. And water changes are secondary to those processes.

Rather than appease Bob by getting into another cyclical debate, I would like to request that the moderators lock this thread if they deem it appropriate.

No offense to Bob, but I'm really getting tired of seeing so many threads hijacked and turned into something totally irrelevant to their original purpose.

No only Macros will right? wcs wont remove any excess organic stuff floating around? Do Macros remove detritus in a reasonable amount of time? I also dont recall asking in my original post if this was gonna reduce nitrates, nitrites, ammonia or phosphates...So Macros brought up into this discussion, is irrelevant...You continue doing what you are doing and me with mine (and many others) method, and ill still have a healthier, prettier tank...

Precisley..this is a method on managing the tank...WCs add trace elements and Ca...I also use Kalkwasser as a supplement..skimming and WCs also help reduce the amount of nutrients in the tank without having to keep Macros in a fuge/display...
How bout this Bob, Try our method and see how it works...Then you can compare the two and decide which is better.

basically, I did water changes and filtration for about a year in FW. then discovered "my" method. Then when starting salt continued with plant life (algae) and no water changes. So I basically have tried that.

So no need to fix something that is not broke.

Again, garbage info. And again, can we please lock this thread? I don't see it providing anything more than comedic value and a chance for Bob to work towards increasing his {squat} status

So would using "your" method using plants take all this crap out of my tap water? If so, how long do I have to wait?

BTW, this is the reason why I switched over to RO, and my tank is begining to show really positive signs!

If it aint broke dont fix it is your method, then why did you go your way? I bet you also think a flat tire isnt broke

But no you havent tried our methods..Since you basically carried over your methods to SW/reefs you havent even tried a skimmer or good lighting..which BTW plants/macros need sufficient lighting as well considering they're photosynthetic (most)...You seem to forget that SW and FW are totally differnt setups...This is the reason you dont find rainbow trout in the ocean and Tangs in Lake Tahoe...

Well we know who helped Len clean up Jimmy Hoffa.

Surely there is a law somewhere making that illegal to pour out of a pipe?

One would think...but i'm dealing with the town right now...to no avail... Might have to go to the shady news people. :) Or...well, just put some cheato in the bath tub.

Fill that tub with tap water and macros and enter it in the nano build off using bob's method

Yeah..we're thinking about switching to some bubble algae...so that when you hit it, it just pops and doesn't bruise. ..the good news with bubble is that it spreads nicely... and if you get too much of that...add an emerald crab! ... hey.. we might have crabs! :) ok.. gotta stop. :)

Standard bathroom fluorescents are fine...instead of a heater use one of those infrared bathroom fixtures...if it ever fails 'on' you can have soup!
