OK, I just thought of something that I dunno if anyone has mentioned before but...Why do we not have a sticky concerning algae removal and prevention? It is such a widespread question that we all usually answer every other post. I think it would be a good thing to do. Just entitle it "Algae removal and prevention" and just point people to the sticky when they ask.

just a suggestion.

And it could be any one of Rob's recent threads. Maybe with some editing done first

Another sticky I'd like to see is on tank plumbing. Both basic and advanced. With things like the proper placement for overflows.

We could write a nice FAQ for algae control and put it in our library. Each situation is a little bit different, so individual threads are probably still in order. An open, sticky'ed thread has the main problem of becoming VERY long over time. Have you tried to comb through 500 posts? :P If it's a closed thread, it's better in the library. As it is, the forums are too cluttered with stickies and annoucements ;)

I will be working on something along those lines. I am thinking of creating a list of all things I have tried and what sems to make a difference or not. Once done maybe we can library that.

Rob,
That'd be great. I know how you feel fighting the hair algea. I've read all your threads and have gained much needed advice. I'm trying some of the suggestions you received on my build off and it seems to be helping. Or at least, the algea isn't getting any worse! Keep up the good fight. 8)

Sorry for ressurecting this, but I forgot I posted it.

Len buddy you are right, we are a little bit stickied out around here, so the library would be the best idea.

As far as individual circumstances go, yes I agree that its impossible to answer every question with a write up, but I was meaning something along the lines of prevention, like RO/DI, small feedings, salt mixes, etc. Stuff that you would tell someone just starting their tank for the first time to avoid unncessary headaches, because I know how I felt as a new reef keeper (as, im sure we all do.) Not that it will be a replacement for personal experience or self research, but something that we could use to point the new guys in the right direction.

Let me know how it goes with your write up Rob, I would be interested in reading it.

BTW did you ever win your war, or is it still waged?

maybe we can collaborate Rob..it appears we have similar problems..my latest was a 25% (perhaps not enough) W/C and removal by hand most of the HA...i know it will be futile over time as long as there are pieces of it in there, it will respawn..and until i can get whatever is fueling it, down or gone, its gonna keep growing...sigh :(
