I have a question about my Kent 24gpd RO filter. I need to get a new membrane. Can I replace my old 24gpd TFC with a 50gpd or even one of the newer Hi-S membranes? It looks like the membrane housing is the same for all of the different membranes. Also, Champion L&S sells a flow restrictor for RO filters. What are these for and are they necessary?

Thanks.

You need to replace both the flow restrictor and the membrane to get higher rate RO. The flow restrictor does what it says... you have a 24GPD flow restrictor in there now, you need a 50GPD one for the new membrane.

I replaced the membrane and flow restrictor on my Kent 24gpd unit to make it a 50gpd unit, and it is very worth it IMO.

The insert type flow restrictors can just be trimmed to increase flow rate. It's better to replace them anyway though....
