Well,
It seems that the Crown of Thorns starfish are decimating the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. They prey specifically on stony corals. They say that it is estimated that they are responsible for the destruction of up to 30% of the hard coral on the GBR.
They reproduce at an extremely high rate, and all of the natural predators have been over fished/hunted.
Right now, they send divers down over specific areas each day to kill thousands of these hubcap-sized starfish. They say that there are many of these groups doing this each day killing hundreds of thousands of them, and it isn't even making a dent in the problem.
It went on to talk about how the runoff from agriculture and overfishing and other man made problems, are hurting the efforts to protect the GBR.
Obviously there was a lot more to the program, it talked about coral bleaching, and nitrous fertilizer. There were a bunch of other subjects, but I thought it was interesting about the Starfish.
Well, it was the Discovery Science channel.
We get all of them for the same price here though.
I will check listings and see if it comes on again. My wife missed it as well.
I suppose.
I wish I could mix and match my channel selection.
I would keep:
Disc Sci
NGC - National Geographic
HST- History
TLC- The Learning Channel
OLN- Outdoor Life
ENC - Encore ( gotta have a movie once in a while)
Fox ( just for the Family Guy)
And CNN and TWC - Weather Channel
The rest of it I could can...
God I love the Family Guy.
