Live Sand Question

My wife just came back from the Bahamas with some live sand in a gatorade bottle. She went out pretty far, dove down about 15 feet and took a sample.

Background: Recently I coppered my tank. I had ich, fallowed the tank for 2 months with no fish, bought $85 dollars from a wholesale dealer, and within 3 days, every fish was covered, and because I didn't have too much "coral" stuff in the tank, I decided to rid it, and the copper worked.

I'll run a metal sponge for a while to get rid of the copper, etc, but my question is, how good is the live sand for in the bottle? Like what's the "shelf life"? She just got it yesterday.

The sand will be live for several days if there's plenty of air in the bottle or it's uncapped. So, it will probably be live until you add it to your copper tank :wink:

Actually I kept mine alive for several weeks! Just uncap it and top if off to keep up with evaporation. If you have an air pump, put it in.
