Improving Downdraft Skimmer Performance.

I'm getting envious when I see the gallons and gallons of black skimmate the people are pulling out there tanks with new skimmers. I have an ETS Reef Devil next to my sump. It produces skimmate and I have to weekly or bi-weekly clean all the gunk out the top but is there any was that will really produce more bubbles and better results? Cheap and quiet methods would be ideal.
