Is this a good idea? I can get a decent deal on a ballast, but wasn't sure if it was too much for a 10gallon to handle.

Right now I just have a few softies / shrooms but was thinking of adding some more advanced corals.

Thoughts?

Not at all. Just be sure you are able to dissipate the heat from it by using some well placed fans.

I've got a 150w HQI on my 20 and it's rockin!

Go for it!

Just be sure you adjust the height accordingly. I put a 150W DE Phoenix 14K over my 10g shallow vat. I tested it with a couple of SPS frags, and burned them all. 12" was too close. 20K will be a bit more forgiving, though.

Very cool, I am extremely tempted, will I see a huge difference as compared to my 96watt 50/50 PC? It's practically new, I'm a sucker for reef tech (lights, skimmers, etc)

Thanks for the replies ::]

Yeah, you'll see a huge difference, but be watchful for algae blooms when you put the new lights on.
