i will travel this weekend. some friends have very cool frags i want to bring back but the way my schedule is, the corals will have stay in bags for almost 48 hours. do you think this is okay or do you have any advice? tia
Take a small cooler with you. I had corals shipped that took three days in a plastic bag, double bagged, in a small coleman cooler and were absolutely perfect upon arrival.
Depends on the amount of water, water temperature, type of coral, and how it is pack, 24 hr is not that bad, but as always, the longer you wait, the more likely it going to be harmed.
I have done 48 hours travel time with corals on several occasions by putting them in a 5 gall bucket, half full, with a battery powered air stone. You have to keep an eye on the temperature, if they are in a car with you it's not too hard to keep them at an appropriate temp just by keeping the car temperature comfortable, and bring along a heater if you have to stay the night in a hotel.
I'm not sure if O2 is an issue, but if you can put a battery-powered pump in the bags every few hours (4-8h) I'm sure they'll make it. I'm not even sure that the 5 gal bucket is required. A small rubbermaid container (1 gal) may be enough.
