hey yall, just wondering where everyone is shopping for their bigger corals. especially the large sps. lfs are pretty lame when it comes to this kinda stuff.
ya sugar ive been there. they are no longer getting any really good sps. claim theres no real market for them. the reef tand in burke is closed cuz theyre moving. other than those two theres wallys, but they dont get much too often. i guess i was looking for more of an online place like what coralcity.com used to be
Probably not the answer you're looking for but I always grow my own. Most SPS will grow to "show" sizes within a year and I have always (and I mean always) had better success/surival rate with small colonies or frags then acquiring large and expensive wild colonies.
I agree with Len. Large colony usually is more difficult to adjust to a different environment, and more likely to die in first few month than smaller ones.
Len and Ephors are correct - grow your own.
That "show" piece you may be tempted to buy grew that way under certain light and current conditions. Don't count on it looking nearly as nice in your tank 8 months down the road.
A small frag will grow to suit the environment in which it finds itself in your tank.
