they're awesome! swapped out a remora pro, so it's not really a fair comparison of before/after though.

get the quick disconnect option. i'm sooo glad i did. the sludge i have to clean out is too gross to make me unscrew the lid each time. i avoid maintenance now because it's pulling loads of crap out. IBS-quality skimmate. :barf:

alas, better out than in.

the other thing i really like is the modularity of the unit. the ability to expand the unit with another injector or lengthen the tower. really nice if i ever want to upgrade beyond what i currently have. someday. <sigh>

Cool thanks. I was leaning towards the bullet 1 by precision Marine, But I was drawn to this one for the same reasons.

What pump do you use?

I'm thinking of getting the GenX 6000 with it.

I really feel that the needlewheel skimmers are more efficient and effective than the beckett injector skimmers. Plus they are much easier to clean and maintain. I got tired of cleaning my beckett injectors that kept getting clogged when I had a myreef skimmer. For the same price you are paying for a Myreef and a pump you can get a nicer ASM skimmer. That is one thing that people don't always take into account is the fact that almost all needlewheel skimmer prices include the price of the pump and almost no beckett skimmer prices include the price of the pump.

i'm using the mag-18. pers pref.

np's got a point. i do have to flush the beckett intake every now and then. not a big deal but still a tedious chore (otoh i'm a lazy bastage).

i've been thinking of rearranging the layout so that the intake may be easier to flush or stay clear longer (nothing definite yet).

The new MRC skimmers have a new and easier to remove injector.

What is the diameter of an ASM that would fit my tank?

I can only fit a 6" diameter skimmer and it must be less than 24" tall unless it has a "no clearance necessary" collection cup.

The only ASM I could fit is the GX-1 which is rated for 150 gallons. Is that accurate?

Will it handle a 125?

It is 5.5" in diameter and 22.5" high, so it should fit under the tank.

I personally feel that the ASM ratings are about double what I would run them on. I.E. I would say a G1 would be good for a 75g tank.

I guess sump space sounds like a problem for the needlewheel unless you are going with an external recirulating version.

I am not going recirculation. So I guess I am stuck with either the MR1 or the Bullet1.

Thanks anyway.

I had an older MR-1. It was OK. It required constant adjusting. I ran mine with a mag-12.

I switched to an Euroreef ES5-2 and I pull double the amount of skimmate then I did with the MR-1.

The MR-1 seems well constructed and Andy (Maker) was responsive to emails to help me troubleshoot the skimmer. I just gave up on it and moved on.

I'm limited to what skimmers I can get and a ER and ASM will not fit.

After some thinking I found that I CAN fit an ASM G3. All I need to do is drain my sump and move it over. Then I have 8" clearance. How much room do they need to remove the collection cup? I have 25" clearance, which would leave me with 1.5" to remove the cup.

On the clearance you should be fine as Rob pointed out. I had a MR-2 with a mag-18 and was pleased with it. When I down graded tanks I whent with the ER 5-2 and I was amazed at the gunk it pulled out of a smaller tank. I would do the needle wheel before the becket agin. Nothing agains the becketts, just a preference.
