I want to add a pair of true percs. to my 125gallon reef. I want to go tank bred, but the pictures of the tank bred true percs are pretty ugly compared to the wild ones. Several other clowns seem to look the both as tank bred and wild caught. Is this something that is just true to true percs? I know that the black lines grow as they mature, but the white on them looks really funny.

I don't think anyone has ever gotten tank bred true percula clowns to look very good. A. ocellaris are far more common.

You need to see Dizzy's :D They are beautiful.

Soulfighter, Dizzy is in Bowling Green KY, and I think some of his fish are at Inland Aquatics in Terre Haute IN.

I have two gorgeous tank bred true ocellaris. They are as good looking (or more) as the wild ones. And you can hardly tell them from the percs.

keep in mind, if you want a sea anemone, tank raised clowns are hard to put in one.

My tank raised clowns just took on my BTA two days ago (four months after I put the anemone in). I didn't do anything for it: they just noticed it at some point and the instinct kicked in.

I never have any trouble getting Tank Bred True Ocellaris (love the term!) to seek out an Anemone.

Not so true. When I brought my pair home, they were trying to swim threw the bag to get into the bta. One of the funniest things I've ever seem.

Nah,,, tank raised are no more difficult to get into an anemone than wild caught.

I also had no problem introducing an anemone to my 3 year old (at the time) CB Clarkii (raised her myself). She went straight for it and has been lovin' it for 3 years now.

Getting clowns to host depends on the fish. I had tank raised A. ocellaris that wouldn't go anywhere near S. haddoni and I had tank raised A. ocellaris that dove into S. gigantea (natural hosting anemone).

i have 2 percs, and was told 2 is my max, how are they in larger groups?

Typically in the wild the extra clownfish stay ungendered.

Typically in a tank the female kills all extraneous clownfish.

There are exceptions in both environments.

I have gotten several ocellaris clowns directly from ORA (and I believe Guy breeds his own) that have gone into anemones that aren't even their natural host.

Yes, I'm positive mine are cb/tr or what ever the term should be. Dizzy has a back room filled with breeding pairs. His wife stays late on the nights that they are scheduled to hatch. When you see tanks full of 1/4" babies, you just know they were born there.
