I was wondering about where all the waste energy is going, especially in regards to the high kelvin bulbs.

Specifically, does a 20,000K lamp heat up a tank more than a 10,000K lamp?

All that energy has to go somewhere, and if it;s not into PPFD, where is it? Ballast heat, bulb heat, non-ppfd light?

Thanks, for the great light studies!, and awesome website with all the data!

Any color temperature of a given lamp, will be very hot. I do not think it would be that much of a difference to worry about because, either way, your tank will absorb some of the energy that is emitted from the bulb.

My guess is the same, not worth to bother with choosing a light based on the emitting tempature, but will benefit your corals the most.

think about this: chiller or a bunch of fans?

Fans-more evaporation
chiller-big bucks!

A friend rang me this morning and said all his fish died overnight. He said they were all eating well last night and looked fine.He did a water change last evening and used a new syphon. I asked him all sorts of questions and the only conclusion I could come to is that his fish were poisoned.I asked if he had used any sprays or burned mozzie coils. He said no but incence. This was a first for me. Would incense poison a tank??????
