I was using rubbermaid garbage cans for water changes (I have 125g and 75g tanks), but twice I've had them get small leaks near creases from the strain of so much water (the 45-50g sized ones).

My dad works at a bottling company, and gets 55g drums all the time, but I did that whole assuming thing and never asked for one, figuring it would be near impossible to get the highly concentrated chemicals out and the drum clean enough.

Well, turns out the metal ones they get come with the fruit juice contained in a large bag inside the drum, and little if no liquid ever hits the inside.

So I now have a couple in my truck to take home tonight.

My question is, will it be ok to use this to hold water for changes as is, or should I look for some really large plastic bags to line the inside?

Which of course made me realize I could have gotten these drums all along and lined with bags myself, regardless of what was in them :P

Line them with bags and they should be fine.

Excess Aluminum can be disasterous for Leather corals.

Other thinks there is little concern about aluminum in salt water... :? verdict still out on this one.

I will use the plastic bag that used to hold the fruit juice for the drum liner. Just wash it a little to get the sugar out. I am sure you don't mind about some grape smell in your tank water. :)
