metal halide bulbs recommendations

I just switched to the Phoenix 14K bulb. I like it allot. It makes the tank a little blue but not dark blue.

what is the typical life span of a halide bulb?

Varies widely depending on the lamp/ballast combination. It can range anywhere from about 6 months to several years, but with most setups you will get at least a year out of them.
